CNC Machining Capabilities

220 machines · ±0.005 mm · 5M pcs monthly · every number verifiable

CHX Metal runs 220 CNC machines in Shenzhen: 100 machining centres (3-axis to 5-axis, 1270 mm travel), 50 CNC lathes (to Ø300 mm) and 70 Tsugami Swiss-type lathes (bar Ø1-20 mm). Tolerance holds at ±0.005 mm, monthly capacity is 5 million pieces, and certificates ship with the parts.

Most supplier websites describe capability in adjectives. This page uses a table instead, because a capability claim you cannot verify is a claim you are paying to test. Every number below is a machine count, a measured limit or a documented certificate — ask any supplier on your shortlist to fill in the same table and compare line by line.

The factory at a glance

CapabilityVerified value
Machining centres100 units — 3-axis, 3+2 and 5-axis, up to 1270 mm travel
CNC lathes50 units — bar and chuck work to Ø300 mm
Swiss-type lathes70 Tsugami sliding-headstock units — bar Ø1–20 mm
Tolerance±0.005 mm on critical dimensions; tighter quoted case by case
Monthly capacity5 million pieces across the plant
Prototype lead time3–7 days
Production lead time7–15 days after drawing approval
Surface finishingAnodizing, plating, passivation, polishing — 3–7 days

The counts are fleet totals, not the five best machines photographed for the website. A factory tour or a live video audit can verify any line in this table on request.

What each process is actually for

CapabilityVerified value
Swiss-type turningSlender parts, L/D up to 10:1, small diameters, one-cycle completion with sub-spindle and live tooling
Conventional CNC turningLarger diameters to Ø300 mm, flanges, housings, valve bodies
3-axis millingPrismatic parts, brackets, housings, plates
3+2 millingIndexed multi-face work without full simultaneous 5-axis cost
Simultaneous 5-axisImpellers, curved surfaces, compound angles, medical geometries
FinishingType II/III anodize, nickel/tin/silver plating, passivation, chromate, polishing

Process selection is a cost decision before it is a technical one. A part that fits a Swiss machine leaves the machine finished; the same part routed through turning plus a secondary milling op costs two setups and one more tolerance stack.

Tolerance and inspection

±0.005 mm is the standard precision band on critical dimensions, verified by in-process SPC rather than a single final inspection. The inspection floor runs 8 instruments including a CMM, an optical projector and a surface roughness tester. Measurement temperature is recorded, because an aluminium part measured warm is not the same part measured at 20 °C.

First article inspection records, CMM reports and EN 10204 3.1 material certificates ship with the parts on request. If a feature needs tighter than ±0.005 mm, it is quoted as its own operation with its own inspection plan — not silently absorbed into the unit price.

Quality system and certificates

What we do not do

We machine custom parts to drawing. We do not sell machines, machine spare parts, or complete CE-marked assemblies, and we do not quote from a catalogue — every part is made from a customer drawing. Saying this plainly is deliberate: it is the fastest filter for mismatched enquiries on both sides.

Frequently asked questions

How many CNC machines does CHX Metal have?

220: 100 machining centres (3-axis to 5-axis), 50 CNC lathes and 70 Tsugami Swiss-type sliding-headstock lathes. The split matters more than the total — ask for it when you compare suppliers.

What is the tightest tolerance you hold in production?

±0.005 mm on critical dimensions, verified with in-process SPC. Tighter features are quoted case by case with a dedicated inspection plan.

What is your monthly production capacity?

5 million pieces across the plant. Swiss-type turning of small parts is the highest-volume line; large 5-axis work is batch production.

What certifications do you hold?

ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015. We do not claim AS9100, IATF 16949 or ISO 13485, and we supply machined parts only — not CE- or UKCA-marked machines.

How fast can you quote and deliver?

DFM feedback and price within 24 hours of receiving the drawing. Prototypes in 3–7 days, production in 7–15 days, surface finishing adds 3–7 days.
