The Swiss-type lathe (Swiss automatic CNC screw machine) is the core process for small precision metal parts. The guide bushing supports the material right at the cutting point – so rigidity stays high even for very slender parts (length-to-diameter ratio above 10:1). CHX Metal operates 70 Swiss-type machines, one of the established capacities in the region.
Advantages of Swiss-Type Turning
- High rigidity: material supported by guide bushing, ideal for slender parts
- high precision: dimensional tolerance ±0.005 mm, surface Ra 0.4 µm
- Combined operations: turning/milling/drilling/threading/cut-off in one setup
- High throughput: 2,000–5,000 parts per day per machine, ideal for volume production
Typical Swiss-Type Parts
- Precision contact pins: brass/copper, nickel plated, for connectors and optical modules
- Shafts: motor shafts, optical shafts, instrument and medical shafts
- Micro screws: M0.8–M3, medical-application grades
- Connectors: fiber optic pins, metal connectors, audio plugs
- Medical components: catheter parts, accessories for minimally invasive instruments
Specifications: turning diameter 1–20 mm (selected models 1–20 mm), spindle speed up to 12,000 rpm, 5–12 tool positions (with live tooling), tolerance ±0.005 mm, Ra 0.4 µm. Materials: brass, copper, stainless steel 303/416, aluminum, titanium, Kovar.
Frequently Asked Questions
What tolerance does CHX Metal achieve? Dimensional tolerance ±0.005 mm, surface Ra 0.4 µm, full CMM inspection.
Which materials are available? Aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, brass, copper, Kovar, alloy steel.
How fast is the lead time? Samples 7 days, small batches 10–15 days, series production per project.
What is Swiss-type turning? Swiss-type turning (Swiss automatic lathe) is a CNC turning process for very small precision parts. The material is guided through a guide bushing and supported close to the cutting tool, giving high rigidity even for long, slender parts (length-to-diameter ratio above 10:1).
What parts does CHX Metal produce on Swiss-type machines? Precision contact pins (brass/copper, electroless nickel plated), shafts (motor, optical, instrument), micro screws M0.8–M3, connectors, fiber optic components and medical components.

Capability Highlights
Accuracy to ±0.005mm, Ra0.4, verified on a CMM. Machine park includes 3/4/5-axis machining centers, CNC lathes and Swiss-type machines, with in-house fixture design and CAM simulation for first-pass success.
Quality System
Every order ships with in-process inspection records. Our CMM verifies critical dimensions against your drawing on first article, at batch start, and at final release. Material certificates (EN 10204 3.1) and full dimensional reports come standard; PPAP and FAIR documentation are available on request for automotive and industrial programs.
Lead Time & Packaging
Standard lead time is 3-7 days for prototypes and 7-15 days for production batches, with surface treatment adding 5-10 days. Parts are cleaned, protected against corrosion and scratching, and packed in customized trays or EPE foam for international shipping. DFM feedback on RFQs is returned within 24 hours.
Why Customers Stay
One supplier from drawing to finished part: milling, turning, 5-axis and Swiss-type machining are all in-house, together with anodizing, plating, laser marking, and silk-screen coordination. You get one accountable partner instead of a chain of subcontractors.
